Using Candle Making Wax

Anyone interested in making their own candles should know that it is a very easy process and one that is a whole lot of fun. As long as you have candle making wax and the rest of the needed materials, you will be able to get going on this and here are the most basic instructions on easy candle making and how to get started.

Getting Prepared

The first step is preparation. You are probably going to get messy when you are using candle making wax to make candles and so you are going to want to make sure that you are not going to ruin any of your furniture or other items in your home in the process. It will be a good idea for you to cover your work area with newspaper or waxed paper so that the candle making wax, if it does drip, will not be messy to clean up.

Now you prepare a mold, and while the professional candle makers use expensive molds that are very precise and made from high quality materials, you can just create a mold with disposable food or beverage containers, if you are only going to be making a few candles. If you really want to get into candle making seriously, it is probably going to be worth it for you to spend the money and get a real mold.

Make sure that whatever mold you choose has a mouth that is wider than the base of your candle, so it will slide out easy and you are not going to be stuck trying to shove the candle out of the mold. You should also spread some vegetable oil on the inside of the mold before putting any candle making wax in it, this way, just like when you are baking, it will be easier to slide out once it is finished.

Set your double boiler up, melt the candle making wax, cut the wax into small chunks, and then this is the time that you can color the wax if you are so inclined. Maybe you are making a candle for a special occasion such as Christmas for instance and you want to dye the candle wax to be green or red. Now you can use pre-made wicks or make your own wicks.

Now you just pour the wax into the mol that you have prepared, and insert the wick. Use a pencil to lay across the mouth of the mold so that the wick will be held in place while the wax hardens. Now you just wait for the wax to dry and remove the candle and voila.
